The next Battlefield “Battlefield 1” may be closer to being launched than what some sources have speculated. Back on December 2015 Dan Vanderlind, Dice’s Director of Development first broke news of the latest addition on tap for the Battlefield Series.
Now that we’ve shipped Battlefront and a part of the team continues to work on it, I am moving on to another project, the next Battlefield..

Following Dan’s tweet first mentioning the project, rumors and speculation have circulated in regards to when we might anticipate the release of Battlefield 1. While the company to date has “officially” said very little on it’s next Battlefield project, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen has confirmed “There will be a new Battlefield game in 2016.” He went on to say, “Our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles, in 2016 it’s going to be another Battlefield title.”
We’ve chatted “off the record” with more than one source at DICE and can confirm that the target release window is in fact early to mid October, 2016. Of course we don’t expect everyone to take our word for it but without divulging our sources we’ll just say that one in particular is about as high as you can go up in the DICE food chain so to speak.
While set backs frequently do occur in game development, rest assured most of the foundation for the game itself is already in place (Frostbite 3 Gaming Engine). Expect more specific details about Battlefield 1 and it’s story line to be revealed as early as May 2016. This year’s E3 scheduled for June 14-16 2016, at the Los Angeles Convention Center will likely feature a full reveal of Battlefield 5 inside sources cite.
